Decker Land Surveying's Contribution to Winema Solar Project

Overview

Decker Land Surveying is proud to have played a vital role in the development and construction of the Winema Solar Project in Vernon, New York. This 6.6 MW solar farm, developed by EDF Renewables North America for NY VEDR, was completed in 2022 and is now part of CleanCapital’s renewable energy portfolio.

Surveying & Pre-Construction Services

Our involvement with EDF Renewables North America began with comprehensive surveying services to ensure precision and efficiency:

  • Boundary & Topographic Surveys – Conducted to define land features and establish project boundaries. These surveys played a key role in supporting the engineering and development process, ensuring accurate site planning.

  • ALTA/NSPS Land Title Survey – Provided detailed land title information to ensure compliance with industry standards.

  • Lease Area & Easement Descriptions – Created precise legal descriptions for land lease agreements and easements between the developer and landowner, ensuring clear documentation for all stakeholders.

Construction Staking & Site Coordination

As construction commenced, Decker Land Surveying played a crucial role in site layout and coordination:

  • Staking for Site Layout – We staked out the lease area, limit of disturbance, trees, fencing, and roadways, ensuring precise placement and alignment with project plans.

  • Screw Foundation Modeling – Unlike traditional pile-driven installations, this project utilized screw foundations. We created a detailed site model that integrated with the installation company’s GPS systems, allowing for accurate placement without the need for drilling.

  • Underground Electrical Trenching – Worked closely with Williams Fence and Excavating to stake out trenching routes for underground electrical lines, ensuring efficiency and minimizing errors.

Collaborating with Industry Leaders

The success of the Winema Solar Project was made possible through close collaboration with key partners:

  • O’Connell Electric – Led the electrical work on the project, installing all necessary infrastructure to connect the solar farm to the power grid.

  • Williams Fence and Excavating – Handled the installation of fencing and site security measures, ensuring compliance with project specifications and environmental regulations.

  • Rasmussen Excavation – Conducted all site work, including excavation and grading, ensuring proper site preparation while maintaining environmental integrity.

Project Finalization & Transfer to CleanCapital

Upon project completion, CleanCapital acquired the site as part of its renewable energy portfolio. To finalize the transition, we conducted an updated ALTA/NSPS Land Title Survey, documenting all improvements and easements associated with the project. This ensured that CleanCapital had precise records for long-term site management, asset tracking, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Commitment to Accuracy & Efficiency

The Winema Solar Project highlights Decker Land Surveying’s expertise in supporting renewable energy developments with precise surveying, innovative modeling, and strategic coordination. Our stakeout methods helped the project stay on track, reduced risks, and ensured accurate placement of all components.

We are proud of our contribution to this project and remain committed to delivering exceptional surveying services that drive the success of large-scale renewable energy initiatives.
